Mainland Chinese passport holders are not on Indonesia’s visa exemption list. A visa on arrival covers a short trip; anything involving work, investment or a longer stay needs a proper permit arranged in advance.

What you’ll need to prepare
For a visa on arrival
- Passport valid at least 6 months from arrival
- Proof of onward or return travel
- Completed electronic arrival card
- Payment at the counter, or an e-VOA purchased online beforehand
- No paid work of any kind — this is the rule people break
For a KITAS — working, spouse or investor
- Passport valid at least 18 months
- A sponsor: your employer, your Indonesian spouse, or your PT PMA
- Photograph, 4×6, red background
- Degree certificate and CV, legalised, for work permits
- Marriage certificate registered in Indonesia, for spouse routes
- RPTKA approval from Kemnaker, arranged by the employer

FAQ
Questions from Chinese travellers
Do Chinese passport holders need a visa for Indonesia?
Yes. Mainland Chinese passports are not on the visa exemption list, so you need a Visa on Arrival or e-VOA. Hong Kong and Macau SAR passport holders are exempt and enter visa-free for 30 days.
I’m setting up a factory or trading company. What do I need?
An investor KITAS, which requires the PT PMA to be established first. The order matters — people frequently arrive on a visit visa, incorporate, and then discover they must leave the country to convert. We can sequence it so that doesn’t happen.
Can I bring staff from China to work at my Indonesian company?
Yes, on work KITAS, but the company must hold an approved RPTKA from Kemnaker and there is a monthly levy per foreign worker. We handle both and give you the recurring cost in writing before you commit.
Do you have Chinese-speaking staff?
Yes. Our China desk handles enquiries in Mandarin on WeChat, which is usually faster than email for clients in the mainland.
What happens if I overstay?
There is a daily fine, and beyond a certain point it becomes deportation and a re-entry ban rather than a fine. Contact us before the date, not after.
